Arts Student Community
Hyderabad, India
CIEE Program

The Study Abroad program in Hyderabad, India offered through CIEE may not leap to mind immediately when one thinks of the arts, but it should.
Through the program, students can take courses in art and art history, dance, and film studies in addition to fulfilling language and liberal education requirements. Languages offerings include Hindi and Urdu.

Hyderabad
Hyderabad is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh in central India between the cities of Chennai (formerly Madras) and Mumbai (formerly Bombay).

Though Andhra Pradesh is a Hindu state, the city of Hyderabad is approximately 50% Hindu and 50% Muslim. The region has a rich historical and cultural history; many beautiful mosques and mandirs can be found in greater Hyderabad. Hyderabad is also one of India's most technologically advanced cities, boasting that they are the "cleanest and most wired city in India."

Art in India
Though India is a large country, Hyderabad's central location gives it proximity to many different regions and cities. Northern India is home to great Mughul works of architecture, while in western and southern India cave sanctuaries and relief sculptures can be found. Kerala offers a wealth of options for performance and dance, and Mumbai is second only to Hollywood in movie production, which it is why it is also known as "Bollywood." Whatever your artistic interest, India is sure to please.
